This book is a historical summary of various painting phenomena that have emerged since 1978. The purpose of the book is to introduce and analyze the evolution, development, and characteristics of painting over the past forty years. The entire book is divided into six chapters, focusing on around 200 contemporary Chinese artists and featuring approximately 300 representative artworks.

The painting since 1978 exhibits rich and complex characteristics in terms of style and formal language. These features are not only related to the artistic interests and concepts of the artists but also connected to their knowledge structure and personal experiences. Knowledge structure and personal experiences are shaped by complex contexts. Along with co-author Mr. Li Guohua, we strive to comprehensively narrate different painting phenomena while placing emphasis on introducing the more significant artists and their works. This book provides the basic clues to the development of painting history over the past forty years. However, for detailed information on specific art groups, the evolution of popular trends, and the artists' individual artistic experiences, readers are encouraged to consult more comprehensive related works and literature.
