The 2023 Chengdu Biennale, themed "Time Gravity," comprises nine main sections: "Instant Eternity," "THE SIGHT OF THE STARS MAKES ME DREAM (Van Gogh)," "Sensing the Unknown," "Spatial Perception," "A Thought in A Gaze," "Future Archaeology," "Echoes of the Earth," "Where the Heart Goes," and "Constellations." The exhibition features 241 participating artists from 26 countries and regions, showcasing a total of 489 works/groups.
The theme "Time" encompasses both the perspectives of natural time cycles and societal time frames. It signifies the rhythmic and cyclical patterns in the natural world while also representing significant segments of valued time. This biennale aims to foster exchange and mutual learning within the vibrant and anticipated context of contemporary art, unraveling the societal and cultural landscapes within a multi-dimensional framework of time. Drawing inspiration from the splendid imagination of ancient Shu culture, the exhibition focuses on the interaction between art and the city, as well as everyday life, showcasing the inclusive cultural values and artistic atmosphere of the new era. It paints a picture of contemporary art fulfilling its cultural mission in the new era.
